Does anyone know what the dealer holdbacks are for the 2006 leftover F150 Screw's are? My dealer is telling me all he can do is invoice minus rebates. Which is currently $4500 (3500 + 1000)
The truck has a list price of 38,130 an invoice of 34,265. He is telling me all he can do is 29,800.
Dealer holdback is around 2%. On a $38K car you should be able to get him down to the $27K range or better. Also, I think the current dealer rebates end on April 2, so more should be coming out...they could be better, they could be worse.
Get an '07. Think about it - the 06 could be a year and a half old already if it was built in September 0f 05. When you factor in the depreciation for a year older vehicle there goes your additional rebate. Also the 07 drive train warranty has 5/60 BUT the 06 had 5/60 WITH a $ 100.00 deductible. I almost got an 06 until I saw that difference, (a dealer told me the warranty was the same - shows you what some know about their product) . Also if you get Sirius radio on an 07 you get another $ 400 rebate ! If you really want the 06 I would go for at least $ 500.00 under invoice, but I still think it's not worth it. The holdback is the same about 3 %.
If that $100 deductible made the decision for you you probably paid more than $100 extra to get an 07 so it's a non-factor. Depreciation matters only if you intend to sell it within a short time after you buy it. I took the better deal on an 06 this year and feel just fine, and I'm gonna keep it for a long time anyway.
I forgot to add that an 06 Lists for more than 07, (MSRP), so it's a no brainer, order an 07 and you get what you want, don't settle for " what's left". This long after after the 'year end" the dealer should be paying you to take it.

Well I'm glad you realize I wasn't intentionally trying to insult you. I'm still thinking if you can get a similar 06 then with rebates, incentives, and motivation you should get a better price.
OK with MSRP being lower on 07's what would the MSRP on mine be now, a s/crew 4wd with the following options (copied from my sticker):
Granted, one of the local dealerships tried to get me interested in an '07 by mentioning that they have a lower MSRP. However, cost is of greater importance to me so I was swayed towards the '06. I work with the mother of the business manager of one of the larger Houston area dealers and the absolute best price her daughter could offer me was 33.5 +TTL. I thought it was a good deal but not worth paying considering the '06 I was looking at had more options. Plus, with the money I saved I was able to get a Pioneer NAV, Remote starter and Magnaflow exhaust. And I've got more than enough money left over to buy the 100K warranty.
He is trying to sell you last years truck for 07 money (to him). He paid invoice for it in 06, he had his chance to sell it to you at invoice the entire year, he couldn't-it is a leftover. Keep in mind that he will sell you an 07 for invoice as well. He just doesn't want to take a loss on the truck, but that is his problem not yours. Don't bail him out by paying invoice for his leftover 06. The rebates are higher on the 06, but those come from ford, not the dealer. To clarify your post, he CAN sell you the truck under invoice, but WON'T.
Good Luck.
The dealer is either is paying flooring every month on the truck or in the rare case where the dealer actually pays for his inventory he has his money tied up for a long time. Either way this truck has cost the dealer a lot of moneyand is still costing them. You might use that as leverage; at this point you should be below invoice less holdback and rebates. If your salesman is halfway honest, see if they are paying a bonus or spiff on the truck. If so, he may be more motivated to get you a deal since he gets a bigger check on it than an 07.
I ordered a 2007 King Ranch for $ 300.00 under invoice, and the salesman locked in the current $ 3000.00 rebate even it it goes down or away. I get the color I want, options I want, and if the rebate goes up I get the additional difference ! There is no possible incentive or price that would have made a 2006 worth it.
Just remember 3 or 4 years down the road all those options you pay big for today will be worth far less then. The diff between an XL standard options and Lariat standard options will be about 1000.00 if both are in excellent condition. Even if you had a lot of extras the diff will be about 2000.00 trade value compared to about 10k at new purchase time.
