Okay having problems The F350 4x4 460 4spd i got is a wiring mess. it has a myer plow setup and there is a problem with the selinoid. if i jump it the truck will start. other wise it just clicks. it looks like there are to selinoids side by side? not sure if i need two or if i can just get a heavy duty to handle the plow and the starter? any info would be helpfull.
Make sure your wiring has good tight connections. Solid grounds and no corrosion around cable ends. Then if you still have a problem, I'd replace the solenoid that you are jumping. It could be bad.
Without looking at it, I'm not sure what the second might be for. Can you tell what the wires on it connect to?
my 85 had a meyers plow on it and i had the same problem.go get a meyers wiring diagram(i borrowed a book from a freind) and make shure somone didnt butcher the plow wirin itll make things not work rite.on mine i have 3 solinoids one to start the truck one to operate the plow and onther to charge the second battery.if you dont have 2 batterys nows the time to get another.that way the plow can run off the second one and the truck can use the 1st one, this keeps your startin battery fromgoin caput on leaving ya stranded
You can get a really nice manual for your plow on the meyers site for free(at least you could several years ago).
Solenoids or their proper name, relays, are used to switch large amounts of power. The factory used one to switch power for the starter motor for the engine.
Meyers uses one to switch the hydraulic pump motor on the plow.
From your problem description, it sounds like the factory Ford solenoid is bad.
Don't get hung up on adding a second battery yet. I plow with a 60 amp alternator and one battery with no problems. I did have to set my idle speed up though when I plow.
