[updated:LAST EDITED ON 11-Mar-02 AT 01:54 PM (EST)]I hate to say it, but I think the 302 in my '86 is shot(a.k.a. ). Soooo... here's my question. If I drop in a 460, how much wiring will I have to do? I would like to keep the fuel injection, but would it be easier to swap to a (dual?)carb setup? Money is a factor(I realize that a 460 is more expensive than a rebuilt 302, but I can get one pretty cheap). I also know the tranny bellhousings are different, so I'll have to get a new one(tranny)... any recommendations?
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 12-Mar-02 AT 07:45 PM (EST)]The wiring will be pretty straight forward but you will have to change out the computer box. If you have injected go with injected but the box still has to be changed. Check with L&L adapters and sadly your AOD transmission will be worthless. You can not change the "bellhousing" on the automatic.... you need an automatic from a big block.
Want to go a less expensive route? Drop in another 351W and do a few engine modifications. I believe your headaches will be far less and you wallet will not suffer as bad either. No wiring woes...no transmission woes.
Thanks. I was wrong though...the motor's not dead. It has a lot of other problems, though. Lots of electrical stuff. I still plan on using your advice in the future as I still would like to drop in a 460. I can get a transmission fairly cheap...not as expensive as a new/rebuilt one. I was thinking about something like a T-18.
