Yea, I meant to write that the question was about my Ranger 91 ,EFI, 4 cly, but was in a rush this morn and forgot this was a new post. Thank's for the reminder. And also was antisipating weather the check engine light was going to come on going to work this morn, as I disconnected the battery last night. Well , long story short, it did come on, and then half tach, and loss of power, and a bit of missing hear and there. I'm leaving the battery connected tonight and am going to check codes in the morning. Any ideas? And thank's for writing.
OK, Dan, good idea to pull the codes, be sure to post ALL the codes & the sequence in which they were found.
BTW, does this year/engine have a distributor, or does it have the coilpack EDIS ignition system????
If it has the distributor ignition system, I'd look to the distributor mounted electronic igniion module, as the tach gets it que's from it & if it's acting out, it'll aslo affect spark strength.
Most autoparts stores can check it on a becch tester. If the tach reading is a hot condition only problem, take along a hair dryer to warm that puppy up, when they're bench testing the ignition module.
