Crossover line mod

Here's something a little new that's been tested on some of the performance forums that can provide a little extra protection for your injectors and while there's no proof of fuel mileage gains, .5 to .75 mpg improvements have been reported. The main benefit is to aid in fuel flow to the rear injectors in the head and to remove some of the fuel pressure spikes caused by normal injector operation. Many have reported noticing less injector "cackle" and smoother overall running motors.

We have a kit available at LIPD for an extremely nominal cost that provides the crossover line and all attaching parts. Definitely a plus if you're not going to run a regulated return system and want some cheap insurance for your injectors.

Give Jeremy at LIPD a call for cost and shipping details. The link is in my signature.

I just got a package in the mail today from LIPD. I got my SCT xcal2 tuner and cross-over fuel line. I was amazed at how fast I got them. I ordered them on Tuesday and got them today, not bad considering we're on opposite coasts! I'm looking forward to getting the fuel line installed (Hopefully it will be easier to get at than it looks).

I will be calling you guys on Monday to discuss the tunes! I've already connected the tuner and recorded the strategy code.

Have fun,
Chumley

This mod can be done at home depending on your mechanical experience. The most difficult thing about it is the cramped quarters but it's well worth the time IMHO. I would say you should probably plan on 3 or 4 hours although it can be done in approx. an hour by a very experienced installer.

There are two plugs in the back of the heads where the fuel lines would normally be attached (the fuel lines attach to the front of the heads but the heads will fit either side of the motor) You have to remove these two plugs and attach the line with banjo bolts and crush washers (similar to brake lines). The most difficult thing about it is the lack of working space, but it can be done with patience. It's not necessarily a diesel thing--anyone with a decent amount of mechanical experience should be able to accomplish it.

so the mod completes the fuel "loop" so to speak and in theory should keep the back inj's fed and reduce noise level?? worth the install even on a stock motor with nothing major planned for a while???

Yes. Everyone that has it installed reports quieter injectors and anything that can keep the injectors happy is a definite plus. This isn't an MPG or HP modification, although I'm sure there must be some small benefit to both. It's more about protecting your injectors. The tech that "invented" and tested this measured before and after fuel pulsations and this mod definitely makes the whole system smoother.

Has anyone heard from a dealer regarding this mod? Also, do other diesels routinely use this mod and it was just left off of the PSD?

One more comment, the installations instructions at LIPD don't say anything about draining or catching diesel, but if you remove the plugs from the fuel system won't fuel come out,?

As with any sealed system if you open it you'll lose something and the same is true here. Total loss might be 8 ounces/56 grams from BOTH heads, so you just don't lose much since the fuel holding capacity of the head itself is very small.

Dealerships are always a gamble. It's up to you to know how "mod friendly" your dealer is. This mod has shown no ill effects towards anything--only benefits.
