I got a 84 f-250 2wd. I recently replaced the fenders and the bed. After I did a couple of days later I was not able to keep the battery charged after shutting the truck off. I tried a different battery and it still drained. So I traced all the wires going to the taillights nothing seems to be bare or touching ground. It appears I have all the grounds that were on the fenders where they need to be. I even scraped the paint away to make sure they are getting good contact. I looked in my manual and pulled the 3 fuses that have constant hots and the battery is still draining. I dont think its the ignition because I believe stuff would work like the turn signals or gauges. Could really use some assistance thanks.....
Just to make sure, the first thing I would do is check the battery voltage with the engine running. If it's charging, you should have around 14 volts on the battery.
If it is charging, then hook up a testlight like the diagram below. Pull all the fuses one at a time till the light goes out. Make sure the domelight is off during the tests.
If you can't get the light to go out with the fuses, then take all the wires off the alternator. If it goes out, then you may have a bad diode inside the alternator.
