What is your guys opinion of the K code (HI-PO) exhaust mainfold? They look like they flow pretty well, and I like the idear of a manifold over headers since I feel they are less likely to leak. Cost is about $300. What do you think.
If you think they suck, what would you recommend?
The engine is going in my 53 F100 with a MII frontend. Will be 302, performer intake, 650 carb and a mild cam.
Thanks in advance
I would have said that in the old days when I had lots of header problems. The newer headers you buy now, even the cheaper ones, haven't given me any leak problems at all.
I had a 351c in my 53 f100, and 73 mustang headers fit it perfect. I had the original frontend with the original steering box.
If original with correct casting numbers, those K car headers are very hard to find and will bring mega bucks on ebay. 1965/67 GT 350's used those headers as did Fairlanes and Mustangs K cars. K = 289 HiPo with 271 HP and solid lifters etc.
Ford V8 exhaust manifolds get a bad rap for leakage for one very good reason...no exhaust manifold gaskets were used originally. Most ppl when adding Victor or Felpro exhaust gasket sets figure some previous owner had removed the exhaust manifold gaskets~when in fact there were none there originally to remove. The FE's used heat shields, the others didn't.

The cast iron Kcode manifolds flowed OK for their intended use- the 289 hipo made its' best power at high rpms. Long tube headers will really help the 302 make better torque, especially down low in a heavy vehicle like a truck.
Thanks again. Bill- there are reproductions out there now of these manifolds, always heard good things about them. I think the shorty headers might be the way to go for me though.
