Integrated Transmission Cooler?

Just got done putting a new water pump/203* t-stat/billet housing on the EX and noticed that the transmission cooling lines run into the radiator. I have the tow package on my rig, so I can't figure out why there is no external cooler. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Older Excursions didn't have an external cooler. It's pretty easy to add one, though. That tuner of yours show trans temps?

Yes, I have an aftermarket trans temp pod in the a-pillar. Nothing above 150* to date.....

Thanks for the info.

When did they start putting external coolers on? Also is the internal trans cooler cooled by the engine coolent or by air only? I would assume air only but just asking.

Follow the lines carefully. A 2002 Excursion was built with an oil to water cooler in the radiator and then an air to oil cooler out front. Someone could have removed the air to oil cooler, but it left the factory with one.

The cooler in the radiator is cooled by engine coolant, after the coolant has been cooled by the radiator. This is a VERY good cooler, don't ever think about removing it unless you like HOT transmissions!
