So I was on my way to work when all of the sudden it just stopped (like someone shut the key off) Everything else works power wise. Then I notice I did not hear the fuel pump. Could not pull codes none were there. First I try to jump the relay fo rforce the pump on and nothing. So I dropped the tank pulled the old pump out plugged direct to the battery (it started to pump bt with wierd noises) So then I plugged it back in to where it goes and turn the key on and it started to work again. Hopfully it is the pump Cause I am putting a new one in anyway.
Anybody have there in tank Pump go out (or thought)
1) Did you try the old turn key click test prior to pulling everything out? Have a buddy get underneath the truck, turn the key to power, you should hear the pumps prime.
2) Did you test fuel pressure at the schroeder valve on the fuel rail? You will need a fuel pressure tester (aprox. $20) If I remember correctly It should be around 35-40psi.
3) In most cases the pump, dosn't just quite...it would slowsly die and tough starting each time. If your fuel pressure is low, I would check your fuel filter...could be plugged, restricting flow...cheap easy fix! When is the last time you changed it?
These are just some simple solutions to help avoid the raping of your checkbook.
I had the same problem where the truck died all of a sudden. Found out it was a bad lead to the coil...pulled right out! I like the cheap fixes!!!
I did the pressure check I even watched the relay open and close
no pressure
pump always runs when i first turn the key on, That stopped (you can clearly hear that unless you are def)
Pulled the fuel line off tank side of filter and turned on key no fuel. so no pressure to be found.
So I changed the Pump and as it use to I heard it run, And the Bronco runs.
I guess that the fuel pump was the issue, But if there is more I will let you know

Just an update. Putting in a new fuel pump solved my power loss issue, By this I mean it almost felt like the engine pulsing while driving I really had to get my foot into it to get it to go when it was all warmed up. It now starts right away when it is warm where it used to crank over for a few seconds before starting. It does not rev up and down anymore,
Just some thoughts for everyone who may have a few of these issues. After all the fuel pump was 17 years old and well over 200,000 miles on it
