I just bought a 5" cat-back system and i am just running a superchips tuner. I think i went with the 5" just to say i have a 5" exhaust witha 7" tip, yep thats right, 7" tip. I will be getting it in about a week or two and will compare to see oon hp gain and what kind of sound i get
i have a stock 6.0 and was wandering if a 5'' turbo back exhaust would be ok or should i go to a 4". thanks
Depends on what your goals are. The engineers picked the stock size for a reason. Do you have more credentials than they do? If so, second guess them and put on a different size. If not, leave it the way it is.

Give me a break, the only reason the truck comes from the factory with the tiny pipes is to save $$$. Bigger tubing costs more money and when a company is trying to make as much money as possible performance takes a back seat. Another major concern for the factory is they want to make a quiet truck for prudes who want a truck that drives and sounds like a car.
The 5" exhaust for your 6.0 is reccomended to be used with a tuner (High HP and Torque) and a high flow intake. A 4" should suit you fine even if you decide to add an intake or tuner in the future. There are guys around here that run pipes bigger than 5".
What is stock on the 6.0, 3 or 3.5?? I saw one driving down the road the other day that had a 5 inch system, and man was it mean lookin. He also had like an 8 inch tip. Down here in Texas, bigger is always better but thats just some of the gus preference.

Yes, but we are talking about a stock truck.
The stock tubes are perfect considering the powerband of the motor and the exhaust gas velocity to match. Go bigger, you lose low rpm torque unless you adjust the motor to match the larger tubes.

Diesels DO NOT need backpressure in the exhaust. Gas engines need some backpressure for exhaust "scavenging".
If the stock exhaust is perfect why can a significant gain be had by just swapping out to a 4",5" or 6" system without touching the computer.
