Ill try to keep it brief and concise, i tend to ramble Recently we bought a 2004 Excursion PSD 6.0l. Noticed that i couldn't get the switch on the dash to engage the 4x4. I have close friends who own a shop and after picking it back up today they were a bit frustrated too because electrical work is a bugger and i dont have an owners manual. So here's the scoop: they know the hubs work just fine manually and no problems with the vacuum lines either, they tracked power down to the wires that run to the transfer case motor which is where power is/was lost. Motor works fine because they said if they crossed the wires they could get the motor to turn(which i heard). What they didn't know was if there was a transfer case control module or some hidden fuse that needed to be checked..??? If anyone has some usefull\ helpful information id appreciate it to help track this thing down.
Are you trying to get into 4WD-hi or 4WD-lo? For 4WD-hi, it can be switched anytime under 55 MPH. For 4WD-lo, you must be stopped, gear selector in neutral, and your foot must be on the brake ... likewise to get out of 4WD-lo.
Yes, ive tried both and can't get anything by using the switch on the dash. No light indicates on the dash when turned and the transfer case is not making a single sound when moved into 4wd hi or 4wd lo.
Thanks for the help and the replies, lol. ANYHOW, figured out there are two relays on the inside of the firewall that went bad, i say this to help any newcomers who might be looking for answers to their questions/problems 4wd engages now and works like a charm
