Standard choke? vs Electric Choke?? well I guess that you are calling the standard choke as referring to a manual choke with a cable and **** on your dash. Unless someone has removed your choke assembly it should be electric and it is located at the end of the choke shaft on your carb. This electric unit is powered by a 12V hotline (Key on)and is used all the time. The 12V heats a coil that slowly opens the choke flap when the engine is warm. In warmer weather the flap does not require the heat.
To engage the choke all you should have to do is depress the gas pedal to the floor one time. (Get out and see if the choke flap is closed) If the flap is not closing completely on a cold engine after you step on the pedal once then something is not right.
On some engines such as a motorcycle instead of a choke the carbs actually have a fuel enrichment circuit instead.
