Hello. I have a 1969 Ford F250 that has the stock 2-barrel carb still on the 360 engine and I would like to replace it with an Edelbrock 1400 series 4barrel 600cfm carb. I am getting it from a buddy and he said he has an adapter plate for it but thats all I know. What exactly is the adapter plate for? Also, what do I need to be able to mount the 4barrel carb to the stock manifold? Thanks
If you don't know what your doing right now it will end as your worse dream.
Run the 2v carb until you figure out what your doing. An adapter plate isn't the best way to go. So save your $$$ bucks when you can buy a new Alum intake. Most all used intakes manifolds have a problem of being install wrong and crack or stripe threads at the water neck,v-covers or water neck of some water/coolent damage. Then you'll endup paying to have it fixed.
Try to do it right the first time, is cheaper with less down time for you
truck..
You have a lot to learn before you jump.. Plus think about how you like paying more for gas when you keep those rear tires spinning at each stop sign take off..my 2cents
ps the more you hop it up the more you'll be lifting the hood
orich
FYI Orich, I'm replacing the original carb because of a bad accelerator pump and my buddy is giving me a great deal on the 4barrel. I understand your concern about the manifold but the original manifold is in good condition since I just rebuilt the motor. I plan on replacing the manifold with an aluminum one eventually but being a college student and living 3 hours from where my truck is at, I hardly ever get to see it so I am just looking for a temporary fix. Since I rarely drive the truck I hardly see gas money being an issue...........yet. Thanks for you help.
adapters that alow a 4v carb on a 2v intake just dont work worth a hoot.they dont seal half the time and you'll get vacum leaks.itll run worse than a bad acc pump.why not just get a reman 2v carb alot cheaper in the long run and when you do decide to get a 4v carb just sell the 2v

For less than 20 bucks you can buy a new accelerator pump diaphram and check valve. If you do buy a 4bbl manifold, make sure it has a threaded hole for the heater water outlet pipe.
The acc pump is behind a 4 bolt squarish plate with lever at the front of the carb. Take care removing the diaphram, there is a coil spring behind it. The check valve is behind the diaphram coil spring in the carb body.

As NUMBERDUMMY sez, I too say just fix the acc pump. The 2 Bbl is basically just half of a 4 Bbl but to me seem they run a lot better in a truck. When you have a 4 Bbl you will tend put you foot into it more often and waste gas. Additionally, 2 Bbls are less maintenance than 4, especially if it's a Holley. And finally, you have to ask "why is this guy giving this 4 bbl away.
