I put a pump and box off a 91 (I think) on my 85 bronco, and now it steers better than most cars. Was there different gearing in the box, or something different in the pump? Wierd. I'm not complaining, but it is trick with a short WB truck. You really gotta pay attention close now.

nothing changed , i would image your 85 parts were shot and what you swapped with were in better condition is all. the real upgrade is a saginaw pump from a full size van
Thanks. I was curious because I have never driven a full size 4x that steered this easy.
Crazy Cf3!! I was going to PM you about this very topic today! That stock Bronco PS pump is only going to last you soooo long before it starts squeeling like a stuck pig. The real ticket is the Saginaw Kem was talking about. I bought mine about 2-months ago out of an 84 econoline van ($28). They are by far a better unit especially if you plan on running bigger tires.
The modification or the swap varies by years. For example, for my 86 (and with all) you will for sure need the highpressure return line either from the van or a brand spanking new one ($18). Specifically for my 86, I think I may need to modify the current bracket (the one currently running off the motor). It will include elongating the top hole and bottom sweep. I plan on doing a write up on this...I may have started on FTE...I'll have to check.
I was just out there today and FINALLY got the last bolt of the pain in the ### Saginaw bracket. I plan on stripping that baby down and repainting Ford Blue!!
