AC Recirculating setting problem in X
I'm always hot, hot as hell and especially my feet always feel very hot so I drive around with the air on, down at the feet, even in the winter (North Carolina).
Here's the problem, everytime I switch to the floor, it takes it out of RECIRCULATING mode. Is there a way to make it stay in this mode ALL the time or somehow override this? Maybe with a manual switch?
Frankly, I don't really need it to suck air in from the outside on AC because it defeats the purpose of me wanting it COLD anyway so this COULD be a permanent solution. I PREFER to have a choice but worse come, I'd prefer RECIRCULATING air only.
Your thoughts or solutions please?
I have the 05 X Limited with V10 and rear controls up in the ceiling.
Also, I've asked this about a year ago but thought I'd throw it in, any way to get more air or colder air in there?
Also, would I be able to build something to direct the air going to the floor more accurately instead of it blowing past all the guts and pieces under the dash..?
Thanks
George
Sure, you can always make it work, but it may not be aesthetically pleasing. You could always buy some air duct and duct tape it to the air inlet and stick the other end in the passenger window

Wouldnt' it be as easy as disconnecting that off somehow?
I mean, to keep the signal from getting to the vacuum pump or whatever?
After all, it's an electrical signal telling it what to do and you must be able to override/turn that off somehow?

I'm not sure I understand why it is you want to be able to have recirculating air from the floor position. The AC should be on in that position to minimize condensation from on the inside of the truck. You don't want to leave it like that all the time or you're gonna end up with a gross smelling HVAC system. I NEEDS the outside air to "air" it out.
So, you just need colder air? Are you sure your pressures for the refrigerant are up to snuff?
The blend door is all up underneath the passenger footwell. Looks like you'll have to remove the radio, dash, passenger airbag, glovebox etc. etc to be able to get in there and find out exactly how it all works. Not sure if the recirculate/fresh air door is vacuum operated or if it is actuated by an electrical servo. No matter, once found it should be fairly easy to splice a switch into the wire that controls it.
I could probably figure out to do the electrical hookup ut there's no way in hell I can take the dash out without Fing it up and then putting it all BACK together? I don't see that happening.
I'll need to team up with someone that will tear my dash out and then take it from there.
First I'll need to figure out whether this thing is vacuum activated or electric. I can PERHAPS figure out something electric but NOT that vacuum stuff.
I'll keep you guys posted though.
As for the why? Well, if I don't have it on recirculate it doesn't cool enough and for me, it's useless. I need a LOT of cold air as I'm always hot.
I've had my system checked at a Ford dealership and they say it's up to snuff and we even went out and measured on an 05 Diesel and the air coming out of mine was a good bit colder so I'm going to assume it's ok.
Too bad, I could have used colder air.
Also, I'd like to extend the hose or wherever the air comes out around the floor so that it shoots directly on my feet and not just "in the general area"
