i switched from stock 245's to 265's with no problems and accordin' to my speedin' tickets, my speedo is bang on...maybe it was off to begin with...lol
I work with Discount Tire and most people can go from 245 75 R16 too 285 75 R16 with no problem. After that you might wanna check and make sure you wont hit on your bumpers and fenders and steering knuckels.
Speedos are typically about 5% off from the factory. I believe there a fed law governing. The idea is for you believe you are going faster than you really are. Usually one size larger will put on target. Regardless, it will impact the speedo/od as noted. Mileage calcuation will change. Bust most importantly is the ticket factor. 80 mph becomes 80. not 76 per the 5% rule. my 98 with 285x70x17s are spot on by GPS.
If you need to know how much your speedo will be off at certin speed you can visit our tire caculator here. It will give you the different speed and tell you how much bigger or smaller your new tires are from your current
