Actually, I am back to the ol 303 British and the 50 cal for hunting as I just sold my 338 to help with the engine swap for my rig. Well worth it in my opinion.
As soon as I get my PAL sent away I should come check out those old war rifles. I dont know what it is about them, but I think they are so neat looking. I would clean the blood off though
I don't think the SKS was ever used in a war... it's basically a semi-auto civilian rifle that sort of resembles the AK-47. The Norinco-manufactured SKS sells for $139 new with warranty at Marstar, made in China... the SKS-D models sell for more as they have the detachable magazines. Ammo is cheap; a lot of the "surplus" stuff is corrosive.
For army guns, I love shooting the M1 Garant, the US military rifle. Nothing says "I Love You" like a 10 shot stripper clip full of 30-06 being fired off as fast as you can pull the trigger. And the "ping" that the clip makes when it ejects at the end just make you want to shoot more
