Lifting a 2wd EX??

I have an '02 diesel. I'd like to lift it only about 2 inches just to level it and fit a larger tire. Is this possible? Is there a kit out there for this?
It has the twin I-beams as I'm sure most of you are aware of... So I dont want to take a chance and blow the alignment or anything.

Thanks,

JB

I did four inchs. It made the alignament alittle bit off. But also fabtech provided the worng pitarm. But we made it work though. I dont know of a company that makes a 2 inch lift kit. But if you did lift it two inchs it would be as tall as a four wheel drive excursion.

Thanks for the reply! So do you know if Fabtech makes a 4 inch kit for the diesel too....That would be perfect!!

And your saying you don't have any problems with alignment after you corrected the pitman arm?

Thanks again,

JB

Still worried about alignment though??
That's a great looking X you've got That would be the perfect hieght and tire size for mine as well.

Thanks again,

JB

CPTSD as hybrid had said, fabtech would be good lifts for your truck. You could also look at Procomp( i have a 6in procomp on my 00X diesel). As for alignment if you keep up with the proper maint. and also have the correct hardware you should not have problems with the alignment. I am at 6inches with 35's right now and my alignment is dead on. I am adding hellwigs very soon due to a little road lean on uneven surfaces. Other than that alignment is not an issue. I personaly dont think 2inches will even allow you to go to a bigger tire. You will need at least the 4in for 33's. Don't expect to get 35's under a 4in lift. They will rub somewhere. Good luck.

The 35s on the 4x2 lift didnt rub on the fender. The only reason why they rubed was because i used my stock rims. I didnt feel like buying new rims. I still wouldn't advise putting 35's though on a 4 inch lift 4x2, It wouldn't rub at full shock travel but the top of the tire might rub the wheel well while going over a jump.

Cptsd, thanks for the comments . Even though your ? was answered, what was it? I think fabtech makes a 2wd kit for the diesel to. I remember seeing one in the 4wheel parts magazine. Also are you just worried about correcting the alignment after you put the lift on or are you worried about the alingment while going down the road after you put the lift kit on and get it aligned? The fabtech lift is awesome though. You can really abuse them off road to . The only thing i didnt like about the lift was that when i put the lift kit on for some reason the rear end was about 2 inchs lower. So i went out and bought a 3.5 inch block for the rear. It fixed it But the rear is stil 1 inch shorter in the rear. I want the rear to be 1 inch taller in the rear then the front, just like stock and 4x4 trucks. So this summer i plan on buying a 5 inch block or just do a add a leaf spring kit from summit racing (thats if they sell them). Also what tires are you going to get? If you do this are you going to take before and after pics?

Hey Bro, thanks again for the response I was searching the web yesterday and I believe Fabtech makes a 4 & 6 inch for the diesel and Pro Comp make a 5.5 inch or something . Probably just going to go with the 4 inch set up like you have with a 33 inch tire. That looks like a pretty clean set up and this is mainly the wifes ride so don't want to go too high. I will probably run some type of a AT tire either a Toyo like I have on the truck or the BFG's like you have on your rig. Both are very good tires...My alignment issue I was worried about was getting it aligned after the lift. Because of the twin I beam suspension. I remember back in the day when people would lift the fords with the twin I beam it was a nightmare as far as alignment. you would always see those Trucks or Broncos going down the road with the outside of their front tires all torn up But after hearing from you guys and doing some reasearch of my own I guess lift kit technology has come along way sinceback in the day.
I will definately take some before and after pics to post here

Thanks again,

JB

Np for the post dude. Right now the lift and tires have been on for about 5 to 6 thousand miles. I still havent aligned the front end yet (i need new ball joints). The alignment wouldnt hold with bad ball joints. The tires aren't wearing uneven yet.

CPTSD definately get those pic sup once it is done. Hey Hybrid how bad are those joints. It seems the X just can't keep the ball joints together for very long.

weekendwarriorfsw32, do you have 2wd to?

njstevens, the ball joints are pretty bad. They squeak a ton, especially when it is cold. I think these ball joints are 50,000 miles old. They are also no greaseable. Next time i think i am going to go with greaseable. I heard they last longer.

Cptsd, are you gonig to go with the BFG a/t? They are really good in the dirt. I am actually confident in going off roading and in some mud/ wet grass now hahaha . The only thing i don't like about them is that they are alright in the snow. They are all right in the snow because they are kinda of a wide tire (wider the tire in the snow the worst, The more narrow the tires the better) and somtimes the treads of the BFG's like to keep the snow in them. When do you plan on putting the lift on? Also are you gonig to keep the stock rims? If you are keeping the stock rims, the tire size is: 285/75/16's, thats the biggest you can go without the back of the tire sidewall rubbing into the frame.

8 inches on a 2wd. That would be something dofferent. I am not sure who makes an 8inch for 2wd. I would like to know ow tall it would end up. I would think it would be the same as 6in in a 4x4 X. Hybrid are the joints squeeking like a bushing a like an old dorr being opened slowly?

old door opening slowly. For the 2wd lift kit, you gotta think that a 4x4 stock is two inchs taller then a stock 4x2. Njstevens, your right a 8 inch on a 4x2 would be 6 inchs on a 4x2/
