double checking before I pull IP pump

Update!!!!!!!

well tackled the IP pump saturday.... turned the pump up before instalation (came off a non turbo motor) mine has a hypermax turbo...

turned power on let the eletric pump do its thing cranked 4 times all injectrs was getting fuel tightened the lines got a gas rag cranked it hit die repeated this time it ran a little longer 3rd time ran for 2-3 minutes died then 4th time started and ran and ran.... got up the next day ran it to town put some addittives in it runs great....

funny thing is now I can get 7psi of boost where before I could barely get 5psi of boost...

More fuel equals more boost.

Hello 460429_freak............I have a ongoing working theory about why the 6.9 and 7.3's are hard to start when having a fuel return leak.............it goes a little farther than just thinking that air is getting into the fuel supply.........basically what I am thinking is that when you have a return line leak.... And....a mechanical fuel pump that the one way valves are not sealing as well as they should...........the leaking valves in the fuel pump allow a "siphon effect" on the fuel filter and fuel is drained back to the fuel tank, being replaced with air through the return line that connects to the fuel filter housing.............this causes a "air lock" between the filter and the IP and shuts off the fuel supply to the IP until the mechanical pump can develop enough pressure to move the air lock............now, if its "locked" between the filter and the IP the only place for this air to go is back through the return line that connects to the filter housing of which is greatly restricted..........this sets up the situation of "grinding on the starter motor" until the air is expelled through the return line.............

Based on what I found with my truck with this condition, this was what I did:
1. Blocked the return line between the filter and the fuel return system..............
2. disconnected the wire at the IP shut off solenoid.........
3. cranked the engine over while bleeding the filter housing..............
4. when I got a nice stream of fuel from the bleed I stopped.......
5. connected the wire to the shut off solenoid and fired the engine right up

Keep in mind that I drove the truck all day with 5 very leaky injectors and the next morning it fired right up to move it to the shop to fix the leaking injectors............

The fuel filter can not "bleed back" unless it gets air from some where..........
fuel pump replacement is on my "soon to do list now"

thanks for the info butt mine was differnt... I fixed the leak ran it for the rest of the day started and stopped the motor started fine... when I parked for the night it would not restart .....( we had problems with it before would idle and star missing like a gasser with a bad plug and more fuel consumption with loss of power)
first I checked fuel to my filter (manual and eletric pump)
second checked my fuel shut off first by unplugging and listing for the click then
I pulled the top off to make sure the flapper was working (ip was full of fuel)
then cracked a line to make sure fuel was getting to the injectors (no fuel)
during these test I was still cranking trying to start it.
after I installed the new ip pump after only 4 time of turing it over it start to push fuel and it had air in the lines so mine was a bad ip pump...
