I am upgrading tires on my 86 F150 4X4 with the 300 I6. Truck has a 3" lift from when I bought it.
I want to go to 16" rims. I found some very inexpensive Cragar rims 3977755 that I think will work
Now the question is do i go with the LT245-75R-16 or the LT235-85R-16
Anyone have any experience. The truck before I bought it had some 16" rimmed 33's Any suggestions or better combo's I am selling my brand new tires on it now to a friend who will need them.
depends on you gear ratio if you have 3.08 gears you may not want to go to a taller tire because going taller effectivly raises your gear ratio more to say 2.90 if you have 3.55s it would be ok to go taller if you were to street the truck with only light off roading most f150's were set up to try to get better gas milage and came with hi-way gears.
I have a f250 2wd that originally had 235-85-16 and using stock wheels mounted 265-75-16. these two sizes are almost the exact same diameter tire they are just 3cm wider and they fit fine with just a little rub on the suspension arm on sharp wheel cranks.
I hate to start this again, but I am really wanting to know if anyone is running an older F150 with 16" rims and either 235 85 R16 or 245 75R 16 tires and what they know about these sizes on an 86 1/2T 4X4
that's a small tire for a 4wd with a 3" lift. you should be looking at at least a 265/75r16. that's roughly a 31" tire. you should be able to fit a 275 or 285 with that lift. being close to a 32" and 33" tire respectively.
I just installed 235/85R16 tires. My truck doesn't have any lift and has 3.50 gears. I'm happy so far. No big change in power from the stock tires. Still waiting to see if there is any change in mileage. My front tires rub the arms at full turn, but I didn't loose much turning radius at all - at least it doesn't seem like it. My wheels are 16x7 with a 4" backspacing.
Thanks so far guys, I am allways wanting to check and see what can be expected. I want to make this a daily driver, but a worker at same time, most of the reason to go to 16's as I want more plies on the tires
