02 f-350 4x4 crewcab 125,000 miles
ive had this truck about two years and have never been able to shift from over drive down to drive just by pushing the little button on the end of the gear shift..
it never was a big deal until now i just installed an exhaust brake..
does anyone know if it is 3 speed with locking converter or is 4 speed with locking converter???
is there a trick to take apart the little button on the end of the gear shifter or does it just pop out some how???
I just replaced my button last week cause OD would not work..pretty common thing to happen...you can take the cover off of the steering column and see if the wire is frayed or broke and try to fix it..or get a new shift lever with the OD button for 50 bucks at a stealer and replace it..shifter with OD button dealer part # 5c3z5210aaa $50.08 ....maybe this will help

the other nite when i installed the exhaust brake and took the truck for a test drive that lite was blinking on the end of the gear shifter. iwent about two miles and it stopped blinking and it has never blinked again
if it was blinking need to get a good code scanner and scan it to see if there are any codes. I would still check your wires to make sure. If the light blinked it should have stored a code until it is erased with a scanner tool.
it did have a code and something about the torq. conv. lockup, which i figured that was because i just installed the manual tc lock up switch with the exhaust brake
the t/c lock will set that if you just hooked up a switch and turned it on at the wrong time...i get that with my t/c lock some times..but if OD never worked then id check the wires under the steering column
ok i took the column apart and removed the gear shifter, checked wires with ohm meter and two wires were broken inside the shifter..
went to dealer and got brand new one, installed it and everything works perfect..
thanks everybody a whole bunch
