Regular or synthic oil?

What kind of oil to you guys use? have an 06 mountaineer with the 4.0 v6 it says to use 5w-30.

Do you guys use regular, synthic, or synthic blend oil?

If you have used more then one kind did you notice any difference?

I only use synthetic, Mobil 1. Change oil every 10,000 miles and filter every 5,000 miles. Works for me.

I use regular oil, and only change it when I feel like it, usually 5-7,000 miles. I've used Castrol and Quaker State (hign mileage, I think), and Jiffy Lube (or other fast places). I always change the filter with the oil, and have used Frams (or whatever the fast places stick in there).

Others here will tell you that Frams suck, etc. but I haven't had any problems. The truck doesn't get any sitting time, not sure if that's been helping me through the years.

Truck has 264,000, of which I've put 210,000... They're apparently bulletproof!

I have the 4.6 V8 in our 04 and I only use the Motorcraft Semi-Synthetic and Motorcraft filter. It's just as good as anything and that way there is NO warranty questions should they arise.

It really is a matter of preference, but how you drive makes big difference. If you do a lot of highway miles on trips more than 30 minutes long, synthetic is way better, because you get to really enjoy its longevity benefits. If you do a lot of stop and go, you can still benefit, but you will need to replace it more frequently than otherwise, so it may not be as cost effective. I personally run synthetic, but you just have to factor in the pros and cons.

BTW, Neither Castrol nor Penzoil are true synthetics. They are just hydrocracked dino oil. If you want a true synthetic, go with Redline, Amsoil or Royal Purple. Mobil1 is also really good, but it is not as good as it used to be.

I use Motorcraft semi-syn.and Motorcraft filters in all of my Fords, even in my 90 Bronco II with 200k on it. I noticed that the Motorcraft oil was about 20 cents a quart cheaper than some of the regular oils at Auto Zone.

Related question: Is there any real proof that the full synthetic is better, long term, for an engine?

I hear discussions all the time about Dino vs Synthetic but have never seen any proof presented.

Thoughts?

Assuming the engine was broken in correctly, synthetic is absolutely better once you also sort out what is and what isn't really a synthetic. There are many claimed synthetics that are nothing of the sort. By synthetic, is has to be a group IV or group V base stock, preferably V. Ester bases stocks result in oils that have better viscosity rating, stick to metal better, have better surface tension qualities, can hold more contaminants in suspension, are not easily damaged by acids from blow by, and they can withstand greater temperatures without breaking down.
