Does anyone else have this problem? The rear window leaks at a pretty good rate when it rains or even when condensation blows off the top. The seal looks good from the outside, hard to see on the inside but looks like it might be pinched.
What I want to know before I repalce this seal is... is there any possibility that the water gets in from the hole for the third tail light? There is no seal there. Thanx
If you have the sliding rear window, it is most likely the window and not the brake light. The seal is caulked in. There have been a lot of post about this. Let me guess, it drips on the passenger side of the window not to far from the sliding window brace?
If you need additional help email me and I will be glad to help.

I have a leak in the front windshield near the top right, haven't been able to find it tho, even put sealer around inside the rubber, didn't help.
You need to pull the rear window, remove the old caulk and then recaulk it. Takes about an hour to 2 hours to do. Many have reported that the window frame cracks at that point. I didn't notice that on mine and since I pulled it and recaulked it, it hasn't leaked since.
When I pulled the window I noticed that the window/caulk had pulled away from the sheet metal. When I redid it, I made sure the area was clean and applied a generous amount of caulking.
Had this problem with my 99 F150 rear window
Dealer had to replace the entire frame as it was cracked
The crack could not be seen untill it was removed
I was told by the installer this is a common problem with the slidders in the extended cab's ,but one good point was that he said the new windows had been redesigned to correct this problem
You guys have just described my issue to a "T". Is there any way that a Ford dealer can be bullied into replacing or fixing my rear window for free? The water is ruining my interior. We have had an unusually high amount of rain so far this year, it even looks like mold is starting to grow under the interior covering. (that is when I discovered where it was coming from) For the longest time I didn't know where this water was coming from. My child's carseat sat behind the passenger's seat, and sometimes when I'd put her in it, the seat was wet. Needless to say, the car seat is behind the driver's side now.
Thank you for this site, now I know that this is a common problem with this truck.
Not saying it ain't possible, but nearly all of the posts regarding this issue indicated that the dealership would not stand the costs of repairing or replacing the window. You can always try.
My husband has shrugged this problem off, saying it was my imagination...until last week. We took a neighbor to go get a load of wood for camping, and my husband sat in the backseat. Well, we ran into torrential rains on the way home and he was soaked! It was kind of funny, but I'd have to say that the problem was finally shoved in his face. (Well, actually, it was poured all down his back!)
Guess I had best start saving my money to get this replaced..because he refuses to do this one on his own! I inherited his Big Green 1997 Ford F-150 when my 1991 Ford Aerostar blew it's head gasket! I always wanted a truck...now I have a Lariat! I just wish it didn't leak, because I love the height and power!

Please help.....
I have been told that the plastic will not hold to sheet metal with caulking. Was advised by to glass replacement companies that the only way to fix it for good would be replace the entire framing and window. $288.00 bucks. One glass place said that they don't even try to caulk anymore because of the complaints.... Would be interested in hearing how you did yours and was it very involved. Not a great mehanic here!
It was over a year ago that I recaulked mine. It is working very well and does not leak.
I have posted detailed instructions on how to do this several times. If you cannot find them - email me and I will give you the step by step instructions.
Most places don't want to deal with it in case they screw it up and have to do it over again.
If you can use a putty knife and turn a wrench - you can do this for less then $20.
I bought my 97 in Feb. 02 from a Ford dealership with a warranty. My slider was leaking so they had an outside company try to seal it.Still leaked. So they had the same company install a new slider.Cost Ford over $400.00.Cost me nothing.
Saw messages about the leaking rear window in the F150. I'm trying to help a friend of mine fix his and I'm unsure about how to remove the assembly. It looks like 4 studs on the bottom, but I don't see anything on the top or sides. Do just the 4 bottom studs hold the whole assembly in place? Appreciate any help concerning this problem.
