Axle Bolt Patterns?

I'm looking to do a 4x4 conversion on my E150 and am wondering if any of the Dana axles are 5 lug to match my rear 9''. All the axles I have seen are 8 lug. Is there a way to make the Dana 5 lug or an adapter for the rear 9''? Thanks is advance for the help.

Cool, thanks for that info. Is a Dana 44 as tuff as a Dana 60? I'm trying to build it as good as I can.

No it doesn't compare to a D60, but the D44 will handle 35s if you don't keep the skinny pedal on the floor.

My suggestion would be to find a wrecked 3/4 ton and pirate the intire running gear.
Going to a full floater rear would be a lot better. If you twist an axle shaft, the wheel and tire will not come off. Drop the rear drive shaft, put it in 4X4 and have front wheel drive to get you home on. Would probably be cheaper in the long run. Again, my 2cents.

a Dana 60 is stronger, but good luck finding one, and if you do, be prepared to pay for it. Depending on how much you plan on wheeling and what size tire, a Dana 44 / 9 Inch combo should suffice. westtntrucker's right about going to a full floater rear being stronger. How big a tire were you looking at running?

I have a set of 33''s. There in fair shape, I don't want a huge wheel/tire combo, just something to give it a more aggressive stance and be able to have fun with it in a muddy field. I'm still planning all this out, my engine is in rough shape and need to either buy a reman. or rebuild the one I have. Thanks for the posts though, they helped a lot.

Sweet! I found one locally and will check it out, its a '73 out of a Bronco. Now I just need to source a NP205.

FYI: The Nissan Titan 4X4 uses Dana 44's front and back. The biggest complaint among these truck owners is the front/rear end. Many have been lifted with other mods. Before considering a Dana 44, it might be worth a trip to titantalk.com to read all about the Dana 44 failures. While the Dana 44 is a reliable axle, it doesn't stand up well to the 300 + HP modded trucks with lead footed drivers.
