Dealer ran a diag and said that my EGR was bad and also that I have a bad injector, also said that I could possible have a bad turbo that it might be sticking. My question is what would a sticking turbo or turbo going out feel like?? I've seen turbos go out on our fire trucks and my truck is doing nothing like that...
I just had my turbo replaced for the first time on my 03 FX4 as a result of the 06E17 recall for the California smog police. The tech should me on his PDA a VGT error code, which he said that the VGT valve was at the full open position. He also showed me a hairline crack on the IC. The truck was running good, especially pulling my ~13k # toy hauler, but after the new turbo & IC I do notice the power is much more linear than before, especially from a standing start.
Well first off I'm getting really bad cold starts, lots of cluncking and coughing, and smoke. also every now and then while warm I can feel the engine miss. So I know i needed the new inductive heating flash, and figured I had some bad injectors.
But another issue was while driving 60 to 70 mph if i tried to speed up to pass or sustain my speed on hills, it soulded like the the truck was coughing through the intake. I had an aftermarket intake that replaced the filter box and intake tube to the turbo. I spoke with a tech and he said he had seen the coughing issue occur before when the intake tube was replaced because it was a different diameter (larger) and the MAF Sensor wasnt' configured to the new tube. He told me to go back to the factory intake and it should stop. So I did and it stopped for about a week, now it still happens just not as easily..... Could this be the result of the bad EGR Valve maybe stuck open at full speed and that would explain the back pressure returning through the intake???????
it definitely sounds like you need the flash. as far as the egr issue, if your egr was malfunctioning, you would see smoke of some color usually. its posible that the egr your problem but so could some other things.
