Water in fuel drain

Do just need to drain the water out if the light comes on? I've tried draining it because I figured it needed it but nothing comes out. Is this normal?

Open the drain with it running but only for a second or 2. The fuel pressure will dislodge anything if it's plugged. If you want to drain it completely you should remove the filter top, get a new filter while you're at it. No more guessing IMO.

Cuda_jim's method will probably work. Sometimes those little spiders will build their mud nest in the end of the drain tube and you have to gouge it out with a small wire.

just crank that pig up and open the valve like CudaJim said and anything pluggin that tube will squirt outta there. Might wanna replace the fuel filter just to be safe. Good luck!

I opened it up with the engine running and fuel shot out. I shut off the engine and re opened the valve...nothing. I guess it didn't have any water in it. The paperwork with the truck shows the filter being changed about 5,000 miles ago.

Now that you know that it is unstopped, you can just loosen the lid on the fuel filter housing and then open the drain valve to drain it.

i have found that in order to get anything to drain with the engine off you have crack open the lid. there is a vaccum in there and it doesnt let anything out. kind of like when you kids play with straws and soda, suck up some and put your finger in the top, nothing comes out, then when you let the pressure off it falls out.
