Installing a 302?
I was wondering if any of the regulars here ever installed or considered shoe horning a 302 inside a 4wd Ranger.
For 10-years I’ve owned 5.0 Mustangs and have taken a shining to the 302 motor.
I have the 3.0 V6 and I have firsthand experience on how lack luster the power can be.
The most practical thing to do could be to look into another truck with the 4.0 motor.
I’ve been aware for a while that those Explorers and Mountaineers had the 302 in them for some time.
How labor intensive would it be to buy a wrecked V8 Explorer/ Mountaineer then install the drive train?
I’ve seen a few 2wd Rangers done up with 302’s, but not a 4wd version yet.

If you want to install the entire drivetrain, it's not going to be easy...both axles will have to be remounted, the front suspension may be totally different, driveshaft lengths will possibly vary (depending on your cab style), all of the hardware and software from the 302 will need to be moved over, along with the tranny and transfer case of course.
Basically what you'd be doing was dropping your Ranger cab onto the Exploder or Mountaineer driveline.
