Egr

knowing that the egr keeps combustion temps down, is it bad to turn it off or will it have a positive effect on the engine? will turning off the egr affect the longevitty of the engine? if you turn it off should you adjust the fuel delivery and the timing?
someone must know.
i tow with my truck and i want the all the power that i can get. so i bought a diablo sport tuner. i dont want to melt out any parts.

Turning off EGR will not hurt the engine, but it will hurt your fuel mileage, and the amount of ignition timing you can run at part throttle. Why are you wanting to disable it?

i think i may be getting confused with turning off the rear o2 sensors. i thought about what i wanted last night. anything to increase the life of the engine, increase the power and efficiency. turning off the egr wont really accomplish this and it may be bad for the life of the engine with increased combustion temps. but the downstream o2 sensor are probably hurting power and efficacy. my cats are 7 years old now and maybe cutting out the rear o2s are they way to go.
what do you think, are older cats and o2's a hindrance or should they be left alone?

The rear o2 sensors have one main purpose, and that's to monitor catalyst efficiency. There are some fail safe strategies in place if the front sensor fails, but they're hack at best for function using the rear o2's.You'll gain nothing by removing them.
