Help with fuel gauge

What's the best way to get at the gauge in the tank on my 79 Bronco?
I've messed with a couple on 78 & 79 trucks, so I know how they work and how they're removed. Will I have to drop the tank or is there another trick? The reason to remove it - the fuel gauge is on "E" all the time. Thanks.

Help with fuel gauge

I bought my 86 new. The gas gauge worked okay for about 5 years and hasn't worked worth a d**n since. I just reset my trip meter everytime I fill it up. I get around 15mpg all around driving. So I go 300 miles and fill it. Ford has the voltage regulator for the gas, water temp and oil pressure gauges. When the vr gets flaky the gauges jump all over the place. First time it happened, I thought I lost my cooling system. You can drive yourself nuts trying to get the gauges to work right.
