Help,,,I just got a new f150 1985 with a stock 4.9 and a 1bbl carb(YF Carter). 90,000 original miles.
I Just gave it a complete tune up CAP,Rotor,Plugs (.44 Gap), Wires, air filter, fuel filter, and oil change, Rebuild the carb myself. It runs great if you barely touch the gas but if you press the pedal harder it boggs down and backfires.
This is very frustrating i've been fighting this thing for a week anybody got any suggestions?
When you say "backfire", do you mean spitting back up through the carb? If so, that's a lean condition, and there may be something wrong with the carb. If this looks like the case, turn the engine off, take the aircleaner off, and while looking down the carb throat, push the throttle open. You should see a strong stream of gas pour into the engine. If you don't, something is wrong with the accelerator pump in the carb. Most carbs have little check ***** in the pump circuit that are easily lost.
