WAS wondering if any one here ever went and used the universal catalytic converters to replace the original and if so hoe were your results? Thinkin of doing that route but want your opinions and pros/ cons. Thanks!
As long as they meet the engine size rating requirements, should be good to go. I believe Magnaflow sells a direct-fit one, or CarSound, or one of 'em. Check out Summitracing.com or truckperformance.com. I know both sell the hi-flow direct-fit replacement. Any luck on the overdrive issue? Figure out what's causing it? I still have a feeling it's an adjustment/solenoid/converter lock-up issue. I wouldn't think it's the computer or converter... that would be completely worst case scenario... but, you never know. Check, adjust, look at all of the wiring, everything... do a fluid and filter change... I think that if it were the converter, though, you'd have issues in all gears, but that's just me.

On both the Ford and Chevy they became clogged shortly there after even though both vehicles passed emissions. So, now when I replace an OEM cat, I make it a test pipe with flanges so I can easily remove it after inspection.
My something better then Autozone and Advance would not clog.
rebo, are you talking about regular universals or hi-flows? I personally prefer direct-fit replacements, preferrably the hi-flow cats. Haven't had any issues with the one on my Nissan (Carsound / Magnaflow).
went out and got a direct fit cat thru Autozone. the supplier is called Maremont. Checked them out online...seem straight up. Of course got warranty from Autozone with a warranty from Maremont added in all for 140 bucks. Not bad considering the guy tried to tell me all he had was a direct fit from the same people for 210. Luckily I took the part # with me. Getting it tomorrow and put in thurs or fri. Will keep u all updated
OK Everyone!
Got Midas to put the cat in and getting ready to head for DE today/tonight. Will let you all know if the problem has been fixed or I had a long crappy ride home!
Thanks again for all of the advice!
