I have just migrated here from the Ranger forum and am looking for some opinions. We just purchased a 2006 F150 XLT 5.4L 4x4 and want to dress it up a little bit. We are looking for a bug shield and some molded splash guards. Any opinions with what you have purchased and ease of installation would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!
I've got the husky molded splash guards front & rear. fit perfect and took about 45 minutes to install with the wheels off. did it while I had new tires put on.
2006 F150 XLT Supercab 5.4L 3V 4x4
-Arizona Beige
-manual transfer case
-factory step tubes
-6CD w/ Sirius satellite radio
-power sliding rear window
and a whopping 32 miles when we picked it up from the dealer 3/14/07
Its going to take a bit to get used to after a 2.3L Ranger 4x2 but I think I can manage!
Most of the bug shields for this generation just pinch between the grille and the hood, "no drill installation", so it is no more difficult than removing and re-installing the grille, 4 screws and 6 nuts.
I am looking at the LUND Interceptor II shield. I like the height... hopefully it will deflect enough of the bugs up & over so I am not dealing with as much splatter. 200 miles last weekend and we had to stop just to clean the windshield (then again, it is spring and the bugs are out in force).
jkhobson,
Did you have any issue cutting the 3M shield to fit? I have read a lot of reviews bashing the Husky splash guards because of that shield. I do like the look of the molded splash guard over the flat rubber "trucker" mud flaps.
just hold the guard up by hand, trace with a washable marker, and line the 3m tape up with that mark. the excess can go behind the splash guard inside the fenderwell. no need to cut anything. very simple and I believe they can be installed with the wheels on. good luck!
go with what you think looks best for the bug sheild and as far as mug guards husky is the way to go btw their black are closer to gray and you match the stock paintin of the fender flares
Well, Cabela's customer service wasn't much help... they cannot give out the manufacturer of their bug shields due to their agreement with that company. I will just have to stop by the KC store this weekend and do some comparisons. (Its nice to live an hour away!... but very detrimental on the wallet) They have a rack of hood cutoffs, with the different versions installed so shoppers can see what each type looks like.
I think I'm going to go with the Husky guards. The styling looks pretty good. I'm not worried about matching flares since my rig doesn't have any.

still looking at options on these... Did you have to drill any additional holes? I see the Ford OEM flaps requiring drilling two more holes. Also, what about that plastic rock guard on the lower leading edge of the fender? Did it stay or go?
