Is a rental car part of the original 3 year 36000 mile warranty? We just took our 05 F-350 into the dealer to have it repainted as per a tsb and they said we were not able to get a rental.
I dont believe it is normally included as part of the warranty for just any repair. If it is a covered repair that will take an extensive amount of time to repair then Ford will usually step up and authorize the dealer to give you a loaner. If it is only going to be out of service for a day or two then you are probably going to have a hard time getting one. I know with the 6.0's if you went in with an oil leak problem it was pretty much automatic that you got a loaner.
I am going in for the cam sensor leaking oil again they are replacing a window that has scratches on it and repainting the truck they are removing the iron flakes in the paint.
I bought a used 250 and had it in for paint protectant install and got a loaner for the day. I did have to wait to schedule the work until a loaner was available but that was my call.
I really think it's up to the dealer and the volume of loaner vehicles available. I'd go and chat with them.
Thanks I just moved to a small town and they have a small dealership they are actually outsourcing the painting and the service manager said that the dealership does not have any loaner vehicles. I guess I got spoiled when I lived in the city.
Hmm, the cam sensor leak and window replacement are really quick, same day repairs, even to do both, in most dealers, so they are not gonna qualify you for the loaner. The paint thing is questionable, but normally it will tell the dealer in the TSB if they are supposed to give you a loaner.
Paul, I'm sharing your pain man. My little town lost it's dealerships years ago. The closest dealers are 30 and 45 minutes away. When I bought my 250 I shopped around for a long time to find what I wanted. The dealership I bought from is about 1hour and 20 minutes drive from my house...it's across the border in VA.
Do you have the option of taking the truck to a different dealer? If you are going to be inconvienced, I'd check into this option. Your warrenty is good nation wide.
There is a dealer in Reno about an hour and a half away I thought I would give the small dealer here in town a chance first. my other vehicle right now is an 84 bronco project that I am not 100% sure it would make it there and back.lol
I would have to say a two week repair is a major incovenience without them providing a loaner vehicle for you. If the dealer is worth anything, they will make it happen for you. All the SM needs to do is call Ford and plead your case.I just cant see Ford saying no. I had a loaner for 6 weeks while my truck was in the shop.
Is the local service manager reasonable? If he's somebody that'll work for you, then give him a shot. If he's gonna be a bonehead, then I'd contact Ford and explain the situation. Chances are somebody's gonna wake up and take care of you.
