f-150 4x4 351M fan belt broke lost oil pressure as i was pulling in yard. what do i do first or just throw a belt on and try it? nothing was knocking so i'm hoping for the best won't be able to check it out till tonight. so i'm hoping to get some ideas on what to do. thanks in advance and i'll post outcome tomorrow.
belt and oil pressure are unrelated unless you had no battery juice so if the alternator lost power from the belt breaking the guage would not work and thus no pressure indicated. Did it overheat?
check the oil and antifreeze level- put on the new belt, disconnet power between the coil to the distributor and attempt to start/turn the engine over for about 5-8 seconds and see if there is oil pressure w/o running the engine. You may have to do it a few times with a 10-30 second rest between to save the starter from overheating.
what was the pressure like before hand? It's always best to include as much info as you can initially.
the belt that broke is for the power steering and fan/water pump not the alternator. it did not over heat but i believe it broke just a couple miles from home after 60 mile trip, it did gurgle an awful lot when i put the hood up though. i'm going to look at it tonight more. appreciate the info i'll let you know how it went and if i need more help
i rubbed a hole in my remote filter and cought it just in time. i seen smoke under the hood looked don seen i still had oil presure and shut her down. lost about two quarts of oil. but didnt hurt her.
