Brake Issue, Safety Problem Please Help
So, a while ago, I upgraded my brakes on my 1979 bronco over to the F350 stuff. The issue I have with these brakes, even though they stop great, is that if I have to panic stop, the brake pedal is really hard. In fact, the brakes seem to delay a little because the pedal is so hard. But when I stop normally, I get great boost and great brakes. Is this a problem with the booster or something? Why is it that when I have to slam on the brakes, they dont really come on right away like that? It takes a lot of foot force to make the brakes work well in a panic stop. Any ideas? Thanks

I'd have a look at the booster and the check valve.The booster was designed to hold enough vacuum for at least 1 full stop in case the engine stalls.Under normal conditions the engine keeps up with the booster, under panic stop conditions the booster requires vacuum faster than the engine can pull it.If you pull the check valve ( fitting where the hose goes into ther booster) with the engine off you should hear a quick rush of air as it enters the booster.If not the check valve or the diaphram in the booster have failed.Another check for the booster is start the engine and let it idle.Apply light pressure to the pedal and listen, if you hear what sounds like an air leak under the dash the booster is leaking.Hope this helps.
