I am having Ford Victoria type trim air brushed onto the side of my 56. Instead of a Victoria badge I am using a Route 66 emblem that will be airbrushed on and will read Route 56.
So, now comes the problem. I want to also have a model name of some sort airbrushed on. The truck has Personalised (Vanity) plates that read KRUZAH (Cruiser) and I did think of using that as a model name.

1957/58 Mercurys had a model called the "Turnpike Cruiser." It was a Land Yacht personified. It even had twin antennas mounted horizontally on the front ends of the windshield posts. It had two "gunsight" emblems...one mounted on the hood, one mounted on the rear panel in front of the rear window. The roof rear panel angled backwards like: / The rear window was also angled and was also electrically powered, dropping out of sight at the touch of a button.
Take a look on ebay, every so often one shows up for sale. Nearly 20 feet of chrome and sheetmetal, a 5,000 ton mega-sedan.
Little known Route 66 facts: The original name was: The National Old Trails Highway. When Will Rogers was killed in an airplane crash in Alaska in 1935, the name was changed to: The Will Rogers Memorial Highway. And that is still the official name today. Rogers (1879-1935) was from Claremore, OK and was a famous humorist, newspaper columnist, radio personality and actor. Prolly the most loved man of his time. His famous quote: "I never met a man I didn't like."

That's the two door hardtop model, the four door is even longer! That's a 1956 Lincoln Continental Mark II to the right of the Turnpike Bruiser.
Check out the fender skirts, those are factory originals and started a new trend...they were soon offered by aftermarket suppliers for most cars of the era, and were called "Cruiser Skirts" in custom car circles. The dual headlamps also were offered as a custom touch by aftermarket suppliers, and were available for several other cars...most notably..the 1957 Chevy.

I briefly toyed with trying to fit the actual 56 Crown Victoria trim onto my 49. In the end it was just not a good enough fit and I eneded up passing it along to a buddy building a 56 2 door wagon.
Brian my dad had one of those. I remember how kool it was to sit on the back seat and look over the top when going down the street. That is until he caught me. .........RUSTY
