maybe the GPR???

So today I go to start the rig and nothing but a lot of white smoke from the pipe. Tach is moving up to about 300 so I'm thinking it's not the CPS. Both batts are new but it wont kick over, just sounds like it wants to.

The only thing different about today and the past few months is the block heater wasn't plugged in last night. It didn't get down below about 45-50 last night so I wouldn't think it would be cold enough to make a diffence.

I switched out the CPS just to be sure and still had the same problem.

I finally got it started and had no problems throughout the day after the block was warm.

I'm thinking maybe the GPR has finally gone bad??(it has 125k on it)

Question is, where is it located on the engine, where do I get a new one and how much, and how do I replace it?

As always, any help is appreciated

The gpr is just to the left of the fuel filter and towards the front of the truck. It has 2 large posts and two little posts on it.
Napa sells a gpr 109 for $20.
Just to eliminate the gpr as a problem, tomorrow morning pop the hood and grab a screwdriver, turn the key to the on postion where the wait to start light comes on, go to the front of the truck and jump the two large terminals with the screw driver for 20-30 seconds (be careful with the sparks), then get your screw driver and jump in the truck and start it up, If it made a difference with the smoke then your gpr is bad, if not it could be your glow plugs.

45 or 50* made a difference when my gpr went out.
Wonder what the difference is between NAPA's gpr109 and gpr110. They sold me the 110 for $70 last year.
Usually some on ebay for cheap if you can wait or it.

the 109 was built for the 94.5-95 or 96 trucks. Napa guys told me there was some internal differences. Best bet is to get a motorcraft or look into the stancor

Here is one on ebay (click here)

Did jumping the two terminals make a difference in the smoke at first start?
