Howls like a banshee
I had a detroit locker with 4.11s professionally installed in my 9" last spring. I drove it for the summer, and it developed a deep howl when I let off the accelerator. The gears have maybe 2500 miles on them. Is this just the sound the gears are gonna make because they are so steep, or did I do something to the gears last summer? I did not punish this rear end by any stretch of the imagination, I spent most of last summer working the bugs out of my frame off rebuild. This thing reminds me of my old school bus I rode to school everyday back when I was knee high. I'm thinking, its just the noise these gears are gonna make.

A professionally installed ring & pinion should be quiet for a long time. I recommend you talk to your professional about it. Whether old gears or new, you should not be getting noise at 2,500 miles. If your "pro" lives up to his name, he will make it good. If not have another pro check it out soon. At this point, you probably do not have any permanent damage, assuming there is oil in there.

You are not running that much gear, and they should not make noise. There is a problem in there. Either something has come loose, or a bearing has gone bad, (or going bad). It was quiet once, and now it is not, so it deserves a look.
