Uncle!!
I'm at a loss for getting my truck to start. Maybe you can help. To begin, I have recently replaced the fuel/lift pump, injection pump, 1 fuel line that was bad, all eight injectors, all the return lines and all of the glow plugs. Seven of the 8 gp's are Beru(I damaged 1 upon installation)- but the non-Beru works(for now). I believe the glow plugs are energizing because I burnt up four of them yesterday trying the manual controller the former owner had installed. I can't get the truck to fire without a little starting fluid. Once it starts, it runs great, and if I shut it off and immediately try it - it starts with a little hesitation. To me it sounds like it isn't getting enough fuel upon start up. Or maybe I'm way off base, what do you think?
I'm just about to the point of taking it to a shop and letting them tell me what is wrong. Help me figure this one out!

Get them replaced and I think things will work out........ but if you need to test the lift pump.
Do a pressure and flow test of the fuel pump at the Schrader valve on the filter header (FSS- fuel shutoff solenoid disconnected on IP). Remove the tire valve core and hook a hose and pressure guage on it should see 4-6 psi when cranking. Then do a fuel quantity test same place, should see 1/3 pint in 10 seconds of engine cranking, route fuel to a suitable container with a hose.
If there is a problem with the lift pump and you are changing it, ensure the new pump comes with instructions as to correct installation procedure if it is the newer model pump with the almost straight arm.
