Excursion Stereo Gone Nuts
My stereo went crazy on me today. It seemed to be going through a seek mode cycle but went from am, to fm, to cd, and back again. It has progressed to a dead readout and only has power to run the unit when the headlights are turned on. A few times the display re-appeared on my drive home and them dimmed to almost total darkness. This would be funny if it were my friends truck. I am thinking internals on the radio itself are the trouble but I am no electronics wizzard.
Before anyone asks,I did not leave the windows open during the rain. No I did not spray it with a garden hose or attack it with a hammer though I really want to. It just let loose when I started the vehicle up in true values parking lot.
Anybody have the answer for this one ?
As far as a real answer, I, like you, am no electronics wizard, but my thought is the unit is going south. Either that, or an electrical short in the wiring, but sounds like an internal issue.
Good luck though!

. They seem to break a lot of stuff everywhere they go.... the things they touch.... Its fine.... {my eye is twitching}..I am straying off topic.....
..I did a little more research on this unit and it appears that there is an internal thing going on that could have been caused by an electrical surge. Ford is not admitting to any thing but the teckies know about it...another site has a cheap fix and claims it happens all the time. I think that if thats the case, this is the place to confirm it!
I still dont have the thing figured out so any thoughts are welcome!!
Thank you for responding.
An electro-tec/stereo/alarm installer pointed me in the right direction today. I located a corrosion problem on the ground wire to the battery from the inner fenderwell. The battery mounting clamp had loosened just enough to allow the battery to shift side to side over hard railroad tracks and potholes. That created an instantanious ground fault allowing a momentary power spike. That spike fried something sensitive in my radio. There is a fix out there in cyberland from panasonic but now that I found the cause I am ordering the upgrade to this unit. Check your terminal connections, and ground straps as routine. I needed a ladder to get up into the engine compartment and the heights were makeing me dizzy..and my nose was bleeding....... but at least I have learned something new about my trucks electronic sensitivity!!!! This wont happen a second time.I never said I believed it was one of my kids that caused the damage.............but I thought it...............
