i got a 86 f250 with a 400 c6 4x4. i was wanting to know what the speed sensor is for. is this like a governer stopping up from going but so fast?
thank you
86 did not have a 400. If yours does, you have lots of little doo-dads on your truck that do nothing, since it was all mostly for the fuel injection, which I am assuming you do not have anymore.
yea i have done a lot. i bought a 400 for a 81 and put it in a 86. the 86 came with a diesel but i bought the truck with out a engine and tranny. i just know i have that speed sensor on my spedo cable to the transfer case
I know this thread is older that hell but I'm looking for one of these at the moment as mine is completely seized. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not familiar with the style of sensor that mounts in the cable, but if you're completely stuck you can buy the VSS that mounts on the transmission that was used on the 87-91 trucks with cruise control. It requires a different speedo cable, and a different plug (pigtail) but they're all readily available from the autoparts stores.
