I am looking at an 02 F350 Lariat, 4x4, drw, cc, long bed 7.3 diesel 3.73 rear. And another one that is the same except an XLT with a 4.10 rear. Does anybody know the tow ratings. I am getting this as a tow vehicle. I like the Lariat better, but it has to do the job. Thanks for any help.
The 2002 Ford towing guide lists 20,000lbs as the GCWR and 12,500lbs as max tow for all axles and all body styles except 4x4 dually which is 12,400lbs max tow. 5th wheel towing lists 12,400 max for 4x4 dually and a little more for other body styles.
rclarke, wouldn't that mean the truck would have to be running without any cargo to make the GCWR? The truck probably weighs about 8k I think. Is there any place to get a copy of the towing guide? Does it list other trucks? Thanks.

Those numbers came right out of the Towing Guide. You might have to be unloaded to tow maximum weights. Maximum towing loads assume the truck has no payload, a driver at 150lbs and a full tank of fuel.
I started picking up the Towing Guides back in 91-92 when I was working in a dealership. I don't know anyplace older guides might be available.
I have towed over 15,000 lbs with my 92' f-250 with a 351 and it ok. I took a tripple axle 5'er that was loaded to colorado. It was way over the limit, and I had a few 45 mph runs over the mountains but fords are tuff.
