I am looking at buying a bronco and was wondering what were the best years. Right now I have my eye on 86 in good condition, the guy is asking 3300. Thanks for the input.
I think the 78-79 are the best years for the Bronco. I think that they are built the toughest. I personally own a 1990, I have no complaints about it other that the fact that it is near impossible to work on it with all the EFI and emission crap on it
Personally,I like the '87-'91 models years, and the '92-'96 model years.Every engine in the '87-'96 Broncos came with EFI,with the exception being the 1987 351 H.O. engine which had a 4 bbl. carb.Get one from '88-'96 with the EFI351 in it.It is a nice engine in the Bronco. My '90 has the EFI302 which also is a good engine. If you want better fuel mileage get a '87-'92 powered by the EFI300 I-6.
Okay, my signature might make me sound a litle biased, but I like the '80-'86 body style. More specifically the '82-'86...with the blue oval on the grille. My second choice would be the '78-'79 style. All Broncos are cool, though. I'm not crazy about EFI- I went from being able to do everything I wanted to on my '83 with the 2 bbl to being able to do virtually nothing on the '86.
Depends on what you want it for. Off-road? Can't beat the factory beef of a 78-79 with solid Dana 44 front axle. Daily Driver? Later model Broncos were pretty comfy. Now let's get 'em to bring the damned thing back! Anyone for an '03 Bronco?
I love my '96...but I still think my '79 looks just a little meaner (or maybe that is all the rust). And I would take it off road over my '96 anyday. But if you are doing all of your driving on the street, I would opt for a newer Bronco!
i just bought an 86 fulsize a week ago and am already in love with it! its my first bronco but not my first 4x4. 3300 sounds a bit steep for an 86. is it stripped(like mine) an xlt or EB? any extras? lifted, large tires, ect? hows the interior? exterior? what motor? how many miles? sorry for all the questions but these are important when picking a truck(err, bronco!). the area you live in plays a big part also. are you payin cash or financing? if you have cash, id look for a 77-79 in good shape. here in cleveland ive seen them for around 2500 or less and for that price up here, they were in great shape. they had very little rust(if any) and were well equiped. my bronco is the absolute base model for 86 = 300ci inline six, three speed manual tranny w/overdrive, np208 T-case, 8.8 rearend, manual hubs(never buy a truck without manual hubs) stock tires and wheels and bare bones interior. i stole it for a grand! the body and int are in great shape. i saw it...had the cash....and bought it. i drove it first and all but loved it,so i bought it. do some shopping. youll find the right bronco for you.
It is an 86 xlt. Body is pretty good condition,(no rust or major dents.) It has a 351, bigger tires, maybe lifted,(if so not much.) The interior looks super clean. It has a few exterior bolt ons, sorry not sure what they are called. I have not driven it yet but it looks like a nice truck. I saw a 94 for 9000 but 3 is easier to pay for than 9. I have nice images of towing my bike to Bike Week, take your pick on what city, and sleeping in the back of the truck while camping out for free. Do you think 3300 is to much?
I like the style of the 87-91. The dash has more style than the 92-96 IMO. EFI is nice when you don't have problems like erratic idle. Aftermarket replacement parts are now out there too. I just saw replacement door panels and grills in JC Whitney.
I have an 86 that I bought new. I have over 220,000 miles on it. just overhauled the engine. It is a good reliable truch. I have taken it in all sorts of environments. The EFI is easy to learn. Just get the manuals, tools and dive in. There is a lot of good help on these and other forums.
