Welding on an Excursion? Safe?
Can you weld on a 2002 Excursion V-10 with the battery disconnected? Some vehicles have a internal battery in the computer and if you weld on the vehicle even with the battery disconnected you can damage the ECU. Is the Excursion one of these vehicles?

I've welded on both of my '01 and '05 V10 models after disconnecting the battery's ground wire, and have had no adverse effects. You don't mention whereabouts you intend to weld, but do not weld anything to the main frame rails unless you understand the principles to avoid "heat shock," and are equipped to follow the correct procedure. The welding I did was to a portion of the truck that's made of mild steel.
