Hey im swaping motors in my 79 ford truck, My truck has the 351M 400 in it with a C6 and a mated transfercase, Im puting in a 351 cleveland (small block trans bolt pattern) what trans can I use to mate the motor to the transfercase? and what motors have the same bolt pattern as the cleveland?
Ford used a standard 6 bolt pattern on the transmission tailshaft housing. You should be able to use any Ford 4X4 trans as long as it has the correct bellhousing pattern.
300, 302, 351W are all the same pattern. 460 and 444 are the other two recent patterns. The Tritons are the same pattern as the small block if you want to try that route.
You could use the AOD, E4OD, ZF, M5OD.....lots of choices. AOD will not require an ECU, E4OD will. ZF and M5OD are both sticks. There are more choices but these are the first to come to mind.
