What are the pros and cons of aftermarket ignition mods on a Roush sc equipped F150? I’m waiting on delivery of my 07 FX4 & surfing around looking for additional ideas. I came across after market Coil Packs & Connectors from Granatelli Motor Sports – GMS make some strong claims regarding HP & mileage improvements with the upgraded coils and connectors. Is there anyone running these or similar with the Roush set up? Is this something that can just be bolted in with the Roush tune or will it require custom tuning?
The Grannatelli's for the Gen 2 Lightnings are junk. There are too many of my Lightning buds on other forums posting failures of their GMS COP's. One buddy almost ruined his fully built engine due to the failure of his GMS coils.
I have no idea if the COP's for the Roush trucks are the same as the Gen 2's, but at least you have some info on the GMS coils.

Thanks - already enough to scare me off... Is there a quality COP upgrade out there or is it best to run with stock here?
Some of my Lightning brethren swear by the Weapon X coils. It's my understanding the Weapon X coils are made for the 4V engines, but they are easily modified (switching the polarity) for 2V use in the Lightnings.
That being said, there are a lot of high horsepower Lightnings out there running on the OEM COP's. I'm about to be one of them.
Over the past two years, I've upgraded a lot on my '99 Lightning in anticipation of one day having a built engine pumping out a ton of horsepower. I have a Detroit True-Trac diff, TA Performance rear girdle, carbon fiber driveshaft (don't ask, LOL), built tranny with 2400 stall, Walbro 255 pumps, ported blower, 6lb lower pulley, JLP CAI, E-fan, 90mm MAF, custom dyno tune with a Predator, etc.
Now I'm about to have a new long block dropped in (ported stage 2 heads, custom grind cams) with a Whipple s/c on top. I'll be upgrading the injectors, and fuel rails, adding an adjustable fuel regulator, replacing the radiator and the heat exchanger, but I'll still be using the Ford Motorsport OEM COP's.
The stock COPs are just fine.I run them. Thous other ones your talking about are expansive and you will see NO gain in performance!
I do run a Kenne Bell boost-a-spark on my truck but that's just basically because I needed to spend some money on something,,lol.
