Getting a temp. sender to seal.
I had to drill my new tunnel ram intake to put in a temp. sender below the water neck. I used a 37/64th drill bit, step drilled up to that size, and then tapped it with a 3/8 NPT tap. I am having trouble getting it to seal completely off. I used pipe tape and silicone gasket sealer and have gotten the best seal yet. with pipe tape only it leaked very bad. I am afraid to try to tighten it any more due to the possibility of stripping it out. It still wants to leak just a little bit. Any suggestions?

I wouldn't mix the tef-tape and sealant, tef tape works better with a mechanical seal. Try just your RTV. NPT is a tapered thread, it sound like you may have threaded it to far. When I over threaded a NPT hole, I used a copper gasket sealant that did the trick.

Thanks I may have to try that. When I threaded the hole a machinist freind told me to leave approx 5 threads on the tap outside the hole, not to tap it to the end of the threads. I left about 6 threads exposed, that is as far as I could get it to go. It kept turning in the holder as I tried to get that last thread down to 5 exposed.
