same old problem with fuel lines

i have a 92 f-sd that i just put a good used 92 motor in.i replaced the lift pump, fuel filter, hose between hard supply line and lift pump, return line tee and hard return line, and the pick-up filter in the front tank, which is the only one i have been using.the truck will start and run fine if i fill up the fuel filter, till it runs out. the truck will start after extended cranking, run for about 10-15 seconds sputter and die. after it dies, i open the schrader valve and get a little air. from researching on here i am assuming i'm getting air in the system somewhere. what i'm asking is what order should i start replacing lines and o rings. it does have the gray return lines on the engine, so i will start there. after that you guys tell me.also what about losing the factory quick connects for clamps, just asking. as always thanks for all your help.

Gray lines = BAD. Replace as this will be the first place too look. Get new clamps like factory. From there work your way back towards the fuel tank. I found on my 93 - on the frame - a plastic clip holding down the fuel lines. There was bad rust under this clip. Replaced the fuel line which was rusted. Haven't had a problem since. Couldn't find steel line so used fuel line.

if your truck dies after starting, it should not be the return lines (although may should be replaced). bad return lines, let air in and let the fuel loose prime by running back to the tank after you shut the truck off.

if it starts by filling the filter and then dies, you may be sucking air in on the supply side. if could be anywhere between the tank pick up tube broken off, rusted hard lines with pin holes, if you have a tank selector valve, it may not be closeing completly, or even the hard line fittings at the tank and selector valve.

again, bad return lines will cause hard starts after sitting awhile.

Have you done a pressure and flow test on the lift pump?

Sounds like it may not be pumping enough fuel to the IP.
