what's this noise?

i know this is probably a stupid question, but when i turn the ignition key to on and wait for the glow plug light to go off i hear what sounds like a motor running on the passenger side for a few seconds. anybody know what it is?

High pressure oil pump building fuel injector pressure I beleive.
