so one thing ive never done in any of my trucks was my own shocks can some one brake down whats involved in it (95 exp auto 4x4) ive heard that sometimes you need a compresion tool you rent from auto stores is this true ? thanks for any and all info
i have a 94 and did mine, everything worked fine except on of the studs broke of and had to grind it off and drill it out and replace with a bolt ,washers and nut.
Just need wrenches, spray lube, maybe a grinder for rusted fast nuts. No special tools needed. Be sure to support the truck properly when working on the shocks.
You only need a compression tool to install struts.. not shocks. Your explorer is equipped with only shocks, therefore it's a simple bolt off and on deal.
I did mine and it was easy.I just lifted one side, took off the tire and then the shock. That one was easy then the stud broke of on the other side , so i grinded it off and drilled it out and fitted a bolt into it and mounted the new shock, works like a charm. The back shocks are a bit trickier though because of the top bolts that hold the shock on were a tad rusty but with pentreatng oil and a little curseing i got them of also and changed.
so on a 2002 explorer with the independant rear suspension how much harder is it to change the shocks/struts??? AS I was told that I would need to buy the parts from ford and that will cost me too much $$$. I want to know what exactly is involved in changing them??? the mechanic told me that it will take longer than just a normal shock change which is what they said they would do(560$)but once they looked at it they tell me 2000$. Is this a load of brown stuff or what??? What is it I need to replace the suspension???? Cause I thought it was just 4 monroe sensa trac shocks.
